Is AGI Possible? Three Key Assumptions

Is AGI Possible? Byron examines three key assumptions related to the brain, the mind, and consciousness on this episode of The AI Minute. Transcript: Those who believe that we are on our path to building an artificial general intelligence hold three assumptions. One is that the brain is something that we'll understand better and know how it creates intelligence, and we will create intelligence either the same way or a different way that it inspires us to. The second relates to the mind. The mind is generally thought to be the attributes of the brain that do not seem to be derivable from neurons firing - things like creativity. And so the second assumption is that the mind, which is also necessary for general intelligence, is something that we will understand and be able to build. And finally there is consciousness. Consciousness is something that people believe is required for a truly intelligent system. We don't know how it is that humans are conscious, but those who believe that we can build an artificial general intelligence generally don't think there's anything particularly special about consciousness and that it too will give up its secrets. http://bit.ly/2IHuPs2 gigaom April 25, 2019 at 04:35PM
